Translating Sleep Medicine for Dentistry
Introduction
Dr. Audrey Yoon is a dual-trained orthodontist and pediatric dentist who has spent two decades building the clinical and academic foundation of pediatric dental sleep medicine. She is a Clinical Professor at the Stanford University Sleep Medicine Center and Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthodontics at the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, where she founded the Pacific Ortho-Dental Sleep Medicine Fellowship — the first program of its kind to formally prepare orthodontists for clinical practice in sleep medicine.
She completed her orthodontic and pediatric dentistry residencies, her Doctor of Dental Surgery, and her Master of Science in Oral Biology at UCLA, with research concentrated in obstructive sleep apnea. She holds a second Doctor of Dental Surgery from Seoul National University. She is double board-certified — a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine.
Her clinical research has helped define the field. She co-developed the Distraction Osteogenesis Maxillary Expansion (DOME) technique at Stanford and authored the first multidisciplinary clinical roadmap for pediatric craniofacial growth modification, published in Sleep in 2023.
